Orlando Magic officially sign 2nd-round pick Caleb Houstan

The Orlando Magic signed second-round pick Caleb Houstan, the team announced Sunday.

The Magic, like all NBA teams, didn’t disclose the terms of the deal, citing team policy.

Orlando drafted Houstan with the No. 32 pick in the June 23 draft.

Houstan, a 6-foot-8 forward of out of Michigan, averaged 10.1 points (35.8% on 3s), 4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in his freshman year for the Wolverines.

“He does a lot of things that don’t show up in the box score,” Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman told the Orlando Sentinel after Houstan was drafted. “He’s just a very smart, sound player who quietly does winning things, that’s kind of his personality, too.”

A Montverde Academy alum, Houstan has played in the Magic’s summer league wins over the Houston Rockets on Thursday and Sacramento Kings on Saturday, averaging 14 points (45.5% shooting from the field, 43.8% on 3s) and 6 rebounds.
