Man shot in Aurora on Father’s Day dies two weeks later, police say
A man who was shot in Aurora two weeks ago has died and police are looking for the suspect in the shooting.
At about 9:45 p.m. on June 19 officers responded to 13000 East 7th Avenue on a shooting. Esteban Lopez, 30, was taken to a local hospital where he died on Thursday, police said in a news release.
The night of the shooting, Juan Serrano, 24, was taken into custody on investigation of first-degree assault, police said. Serrano posted bond and was released from jail on June 20.
The death of Lopez will bring updated charges in the case, which is now being investigated as a homicide. Investigators believe that a “dispute at the house during a family gathering led to the shooting,” police said.
Serrano’s whereabouts are unknown, the release said. He had an advisement hearing scheduled on July 19, according to court records.
