I-70 repaving work in west metro Denver will disrupt 4-mile stretch at night
Interstate 70 through northwest metro Denver is going under the knife in a big way this summer, with more than four miles of repaving work on top of bridge replacement projects.
The repaving project begins next week, after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, between Wadsworth Boulevard and Pecos Street. The work will happen in the evening and overnight hours through the end of October, generally moving from west to east, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
A news release says lane closures will occur Sunday through Thursday nights, with a single lane closing in work zones at 7 p.m. and a second lane blocked off in the late evening. All lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. each day, though a grinded surface will greet drivers at times.
In the eastern part of that project zone, crews on a separate project have been replacing neighborhood noise walls along the highway between Tennyson Street and Lowell Boulevard.
In March, a bridge-replacement project began for the I-70 spans over West 32nd Avenue in Wheat Ridge; that work is expected to continue through late 2023. CDOT also has plans later this summer to replace the I-70 bridge over Harlan Street, within the repaving project’s limits.
That project is expected to take about two years.
