Denver weather: Weekend temperatures expected to near triple-digit heat

Denverites can expect a hot weekend with temperatures nearing triple digits.

Friday will see a high of around 93 degrees with possible afternoon showers. The overnight low is 65 degrees. Wind gusts could reach as high as 20 mph Friday night.

Building heat in the the area is expected to make for an especially hot weekend with highs in the upper 90s.

The National Weather Service anticipates a high of 98 on Saturday with some calm winds and almost no chance of rain. Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 68 before climbing again Sunday, when the expected high is 99 degrees.

Sunday has a 20% chance for showers during the day and into the night, particularly before 1 a.m.

Temperatures are expected to dip to start next week.

Monday’s forecast calls for a high of 85 and Tuesday’s should see a high of 89, with Monday having a 50% chance for thunderstorms.

In other parts of the state, such as Cheyenne County, a flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Friday afternoon and evening.

The watch was issued amid the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the area which could give way to flash flooding.
